Felton sparks Bobcats
Felton stepped up and made a big 3 in the closing minutes of the Bobcats' last preseason game to help them win the game.
Katz: Winning title nothing compared to rebuilding
Here is a good article from ESPN's Andy Katz on UNC's rebuilding progress. No new insights really, but a good summary of events from the last few months.
UNC picked 36th in ESPN poll
It is nice they are throwing the reigning champs a bone with the first ESPN/USA Today poll. Duke is ranked #1. Ugh.
Update on Jackie and Melvin
Actually there isn't anything new on Jackie. He is still slated to play in the NBA minor league for Fayettville. Melvin on the other hand is a free agent after a short stint in Greece. See article for more info.
Tar Heels Picked To Finish Sixth in ACC, Hansbrough is preseason ACC ROY
Time to swallow hard. The Heels are picked to finish sixth in the ACC and I think that is generous! Unless the team pulls together really well, we could easily lose some close games and end up closer to the sellar of the ACC. But it is no time to get negative! Go heels. Oh yeah, Hansbrough was picked as the preseason ACC Rookie of the Year over Duke's McRoberts. Very good.
UNC's NBA Rookies Photos
The reigning NCAA champs are href="http://northcarolina.scout.com/2/457743.html">representing in the NBA. Good pictures of Rashad McCants, Marvin Williams, Raymond Felton and Sean May.
Telep Talks UNC Hoops Recruiting
InsideCarolina recently posted an interview with college hoops recruiting expert Dave Telep where he talks about how good next year's UNC freshman will be. He thinks Duke and Carolina are going to flip flop every year with the best recruiting classes and he thinks both programs will be in the running for the NCAA championship for the next 10 years.
Spurs Waive Jawad Williams
Too bad for Jawad -- the Spurs waived him. He could join Jackie in the NBA minor leagues or head to Eurpoe as many former Carolina players have. He's got the talent, he just needs to be more aggressive.
Felton predicting big things
You have to love Felton's winning attitude. He's a rookie, so people will have to cut him some slack on his optimism even if it is unfounded (the Bobcats went 18-64 last year).
Recruiting status
Here is a good article summing up the UNC recruiting picture for next year.
One thing we have to be a little concerned about is one of the recruits jumping ship before they sign. It isn't completely uncommon and with so many stars joining the team next year, one of them could get concerned about playing time. In the article, Alex Stepheson said he's not going anywhere.
This answers my question
"Tar Heel Recruiting Class Now No. 1 In Country
After winning the NCAA title in April, North Carolina is No. 1 again -- in the recruiting rankings.
Recruiting analysts Bob Gibbons and Dave Telep said Monday that last weekend's commitment of 6-foot-9 Brandan Wright vaults the Tar Heels over Ohio State and gives them the No. 1 class in the nation."

Dave Telep: Tar Heels make major move
Now with the addition of Brandan Wright, I wonder if Dave Telep would put the Tarheels recruiting class above Ohio State?
Brandan Wright To UNC!!!
This was a bit of a shocker. Now we have the top pointing guard (Lawson), top shooting guard (Ellington) and the top power forward (Wright) of the 05-06 class! That along with three solid big men. Wow. Thank you Roy Williams :-)
Mike Copeland Out 2-4 Weeks
What a bummer. Mike tore his right medial meniscus in Friday night's scrimmage. Out 2-4 weeks. This is a critical time for him to learn the system. At least he'll be back before the season starts.
New Smith Center Video Boards and Banners
They have finally replaced the old video boards with new ones in the Dean Dome. It was long overdue. They've also added a couple of nice banners :-)
Jackie to play for Fayetteville Patriots in the NBA's minor league
A lot people have been asking about Jackie Manuel. Here is the answer. He will be playing along side Wake's Taron Downey for the Fayetteville Patriots.
Felton and McCants shine in openers
Felton and McCants are already making their mark!
Felton scores 20 on 8-11 shooting
Rashad McCants' 18-point offensive outburst
Report: Coach K to lead USA basketball
Guess I won't be watching USA basketball for the next few years. :-(
Alex Stepheson To UNC
We are racking up the recruits now. Center/power forward Alex Stepheson gave a verbal commitment today. He's another recruit that has flown mostly under the radar (ranked as the No. 13 center by Scout.com), but obviously Coach Williams saw something in him.
McCants' goal: teamwork
"Rashad McCants isn't shy about setting goals for his rookie season with Minnesota, and he revealed an awfully lofty one this week. Averaging 10 assists a game. From the shooting guard position. Probably off the bench. "It's a challenge," McCants said."

'Late Night with Roy' Is Just One Week Away
I've been to midnight madness at UNC (dubbed "Late Night With Roy") for the last two years. This year's installment is less than a week away. Unfortunately I'll be in Boston and not able to attend.
The good news for this year's attendees is that the men's team will be starting before midnight: "A change in NCAA rules has allowed the season-opening event to begin earlier in the evening." Kenny Smith will be the host (ESPN's Stuart Scott had been the host for the last few years.)
The first game is a little over a month away!
Forget Hawes, we have Thompson!
Deon Thompson recently visited UNC and now is expected to commit to UNC! Thompson is a 6'8'' center from CA. He was fairly unknown last year, but had a very strong summer. While he doesn't quite have the height of Spencer Hawes, he has a big body similar to Sean May.
Roy keeps racking up the recruits!
Recap: Bahamas Coverage
You can tell the guys at Inside Carolina are just chomping at the bit for the season to start. They've made an extensive amount of photos and coverage available from the games in the Bahamas. Lots of good photos, check it out.
Wouldn't it be cool if they did this for every game! ;-)
What about Jackie?
Since I reported that Jawad signed with the Spurs, several people have asked me about Jackie Manuel. The last I heard was that he had a very bad ankle sprain during the pre-draft camp. Let's face it, Jackie's chances for making it to the NBA aren't good. Either he'll head east and try to play in Europe or hang up his shoes. Either way he'll have a wonderful experience at UNC to look back on.
After checking some of the discussion boards, someone reported seeing Jackie in Chapel Hill a couple of weeks ago with his wife.....
Hawes picks Washington
The Seattle Times reports that the #1 center in the 2007 class, Spencer Hawes, committed to the University of Washington over UNC yesterday. Hawes is from Seattle so there was plenty of pressure for him to stay local. It was a tradeoff: stay close to home or play for the best program in the country. He chose the former. Hawes is 6'11'' and had UNC a close second. Dang it!
Jawad Williams Signs with Spurs
Good news for Jawad. The Spurs have picked him up. His Summer League numbers weren't outstanding, but I think if he is given a fair shot and he stays healthy, he can definitely help an NBA team.
