UNC Stat of the Day:

InsideCarolina.com: Jawad Williams To NBA Summer League
"After going unselected in the 2005 NBA Draft in New York on Tuesday, former North Carolina forward Jawad Williams is on his way to participate in the NBA's Las Vegas Summer League, playing for the Golden State Warriors, his agent said on Thursday."

NBA Draft: 4 in the top 14
#2. Marvin Williams (Atlanta Hawks)
#5. Ray Felton (Charlotte Bobcats)
#13. Sean May (Charlotte Bobcats)
#14. Rashad McCants (Minnesota Timberwolves)

Unfortunately, Jawad Williams didn't get picked. With all the high schoolers they picked in the second round, I thought Jawad should have definitely been picked. He can still try out for teams.

InsideCarolina.com: Roy Williams Press Conference
Ol Roy talks to the media for 45 minutes. Good stuff. He answers questions about the draft, the new NBA minimum age limit, recruiting and other topics.
Roy Williams says NBA's age rule won't solve anything
Here is Roy saying pretty much the same thing as Lute Olsen.

"Williams could accept a rule more in line with baseball's draft: any player who enrolls in college can't be drafted until after his junior season. He believes that more players would be in better positions to get degrees after three years of college and would have clearer ideas if they are ready for the pros."
Olson: New NBA age minimum bad for college game
I agree with Lute Olsen about the new NBA age minimum. They should have made it at least 20. Making it 19 doesn't accomplish a whole lot. But I guess it is a first step. If anything, the players that are completely overhyped and don't accomplish anything their first year of college may stick around longer now.
The saga continues - Randolph staying in NBA draft
This has reached comical status. It looks like Duke's Shav Randolph will be staying in NBA draft.

And I love Coach K's reaction:
"He's not going to be a first round draft pick, and he may not be a second round draft pick, but you never know with the second round because someone late could pick a tall guy," Krzyzewski said June 12. "If he gets word of that, and he feels that's good and he wants to go then good luck."

Here is another article: Blue Devil leaves Duke despite murky future
Surprise of the Year!
Now Shav says that all along he intended to come back. I doubt it had anything to do with the NBA teams telling him that he'd be lucky to be a backup for Kris Lang in the European League.

"Shavlik Randolph's flirtation with an early exit from Duke seems to be nearing a conclusion.

The forward, who May 13 declared himself eligible for the NBA draft, said Monday that he would likely return for his senior season with the Blue Devils.

"My intentions are to come back to Duke because I think we'll have a chance to do something special next year," Randolph told The Associated Press following a workout with the Charlotte Bobcats. "I don't want to rule out any options, but that's been my intention all along." "

The other Williams thinks he's a first-rounder
"Marvin, a freshman, will be the first or second pick in the draft. Jawad, who prepped at St. Edward High School, might be a high second-round selection.

''I really can't (explain it),'' Jawad said. ''It's not like I didn't deserve it. It's not like someone just handed (the starting job) to me. I was the most overlooked person on that team. They don't realize Marvin was coming off the bench for a reason. Now is my time to show what I can do.''

Jawad, I can clarify this for you. The NBA draft isn't at all about current ability. It is about who NBA teams *think* will be the best player in 3-5 years. That's why so many high school prospects are picked. Not because they are better than you, because most aren't. It is because NBA teams think they will be better than you when they get your age and older.
May lobbies 'Cats
"Following his workout for the Charlotte Bobcats, North Carolina center Sean May said he thinks he's an NBA lottery pick and that he would love to play in Charlotte.

"I think anywhere between nine and 15 is a fair estimate," May said. "There are 22 days left [before the draft]. I'm counting down the days until I know where I'm going."

Charlotte picks fifth and 13th in the first round."

Jackie Manuel breaks foot at mini-camp
This sucks for Jackie. The article belows says that Jackie had been projected as a possible second-round pick. That would have been pretty surprising to me, but not everyone is picked to go to the Chicago pre-draft camp, so someone thinks he's worth looking at.

"UNC forward Jackie Manuel will miss the remainder of the NBA Chicago pre-draft camp after fracturing the fifth metatarsal of his left foot on Tuesday.

X-rays taken Wednesday revealed that Manuel had suffered a hairline fracture on the outside of his left foot after slipping on a wet spot on the floor at the Solheim Center in downtown Chicago.

"It's very frustrating," Manuel said, still supporting his team courtside while wearing a walking cast. "But these things happen for a reason. I can't get down. It's out of my control."

Article: Williams: Tar Heels need ‘a complete overhaul’
Here is a good article on Coach Williams with a bunch of quotes:
“It’s been really hectic because we’re trying at the last minute to see if there is anyone available that can add to the team,” Williams said. “It’s very difficult this time of the year. We’re doing more things like making phone calls to Europe.”
Article: Felton is right pick for Jazz
"The Jazz should stay where they are, draft North Carolina point guard Raymond Felton and grow with him."
