"In all, the convention's IT operation supports more than 1,000 Microsoft Active Directory users, 100 PCs, and 30 servers across six locations in Boston. In this sense, the convention itself was like a startup company with a $70 million operating budget." InformationWeek >Continue at source.

MS KB 246530 - Scripting Functions Provided by Iadstools.dll
If you are into scripting Active Directory, MS KB 246530 - Scripting Functions Provided by Iadstools.dll may be of some interest, which I just found out about on Thomas Lee's blog. IadsTools, while a little buggy, has some very useful functions. Many of them are scripting versions of the MS DS API functions.
The help doc that comes with IADsTools doesn't provide a simple list of all the IADsTools functions. It is a large Word doc that you have to scroll through to see what is available. This KB article gives you a list and short summary of each function.

Article: Unix to beef up Longhorn
It is speculation at this point, but this article says MS may include SFU with Longhorn.
"By including SFU in Windows, Microsoft could rapidly become the biggest supplier of Unix software if Longhorn proves a success, undermining traditional Unix vendors such as Sun, HP and IBM, as well as Linux vendors' enterprise offerings."
But SFU isn't really UNIX software, it is Windows software. Some if is meant to emulate UNIX software and some it is meant to help organizations migrate away from UNIX systems. Since SFU is free now anyway, I don't find this terribly exciting news.

Article: Identity management takes on new shape
"DRIVEN by network security concerns, regulatory legislation and cost savings, identity management is climbing the corporate importance meter. The trend is seen in end user projects, in consolidation of vendors and product categories, and the appearance of broad suites of identity management software from Computer Associates, IBM, Microsoft, Novell, RSA Security, Sun Microsystems and others.
The question is, 'What kinds of risks will we be taking if we are without identity management?'" says Ahmed El-Haggan, CIO and professor of computer science at Coppin State University in Baltimore. "We are adding a lot of access that we didn't offer before so the question becomes, 'Can we live without identity management in the future?'"
